Road up to top of Sassafras Mt - various plants and sometimes wildlife
 
At the top, park at the end of parking lot, then walk a couple of 100 feet to the overlook.  You can see Lake Keowee on a clear day
 
Walking under the overlook can offer some good photo opportunities
 
Best to photos are in later afternoon
 
At the beginning of the parking lot, walk up the old road around the yellow barrier to the top.  Look for the geographic maker.  Stand over it and you will be in both SC and NC at the same time
 
Good panorama view of Caesars Head and  looking into breathtaking views of the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Escarpment
 
At the beginning of the parking lot, you can walk part of the Foothills Trail and get some good photos  (No overlooks)


Driving Tips and Other Information

From the intersection of SC Hwy 11 and US 178 (Holly Springs Grocery on corner)
  - Head towards Rosman, NC
  - Drive approx. 7 miles
 
Turn right onto F. van Clayton Hwy
 
Drive approx. 4.6 miles to the top of Mountain
 
Note:  Sassafras Mountain is the highest mountain in SC
 
No Bathroom facilities available
