Photo Suggestions

Best time to photograph Bull Sluice is when rafters are going through it.

Ideally you should photograph rafters on both the SC and GA side.  You will get a different perspective from both sides

Note:  from the SC side, all you will be able to see is the rafters entering Bull Sluice.  When in the sluice there is a 14 foot drop and the rafters are out of sight for 30 seconds or more.

Driving Tips and Other Information

From Westminster, SC take US Hwy 76 for approx. 17 miles to the SC/GA border

Just before you get to the Chattooga River on the border, turn right at Sumter National Forestry sign into the parking lot.
  - Park
  - Walk up to the bathrooms
  - Follow the paved trail to the first trail on the right (gravel)
  - Turn right onto the trail and walk approx. .2 of mile to the overlook
      - If you climb down from the overlook, be very careful of the slick rocks
      - Highly recommend you wear hiking boots
      - Tennis shoes do not work good on slick rocks

You should call one of the Rafting Companies to see when they will be entering Bull Sluice, so you would have an approximate time to be in place.  Several are:
  - Wildwater Rafting - Long Creek, SC
  - Southeaster Expeditions - Clayton, GA
